Muzio Clementi (1752-1832), born in Italy, lived in England for 20 years as a teacher and performer. He published a set of small sonatas, called sonatinas, as his Opus 36 in 1797. The two movements heard today are taken from his first sonatina.
The Recessional Hymn, “Come labor on,” was written in 1859 by Jane Borthwick of Edinburgh, Scotland as a hymn for church workers. The tune was published 100 years ago, was composed by T. Tertius Noble, organist-choirmaster at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, New York.
