Bulletin Blog Edition for Dec. 2 2018
Visitors – Welcome!
Peace and joy in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Please advise us of your visit and ask for a “First Time Visitor Bulletin” which briefly explains the communion service. Please join our church family in the Parish Hall after the service for fellowship, drinks, and food.
Note: Holy Communion: If you have been confirmed by a Bishop in Apostolic Succession, you are invited to receive the Blessed Sacrament. If not, but are a Baptized Christian, please come to the Altar Rail for a blessing (simply cross your arms over your chest when the Celebrant approaches.) MUSIC NOTES:
For Advent, we will begin to re-introduce the Merbecke setting of the liturgy of the BCP, the earliest musical setting from 1549. The congregation already sings 701 when using the Decalogue. For this Sunday, I would like to add 706 as the Agnus Dei, but still keep the Willan Sanctus (797). (This is so that the liturgical music is gradually replacing what is sung during the Advent season.)
Each week, the choir will sing the Introit and Offertory sentences appropriate to each Sunday.
—————
As a point of local history at St. Timothy, I examined bulletins from 1981 for several years. The congregation sang this setting, beginning in
1981 (701, 702, 705, 706, 796). They began sing the Scottish chant Gloria (739) in 1986. During 2007 (Lent), they sang the Merbecke setting.
Note: Thank you John and the choir for your hard work…this from the mass itself to going through and organizing past history. Fr. Michael
