Edward Mason Read (1846-1936), born in Vermont and student of Samuel B. Whitney (Church of the Advent, Boston), was an organist and representative of the Estey Organ Co. in St. Louis. His prelude from 1906 has contrasting melodies with colorful organ stops.The Processional Hymn (#485) is a 19th translation from a 12th century Latin poem attributed to St. Bernard of Clairvaux, a French Cistercian monk who founded 69 monasteries.

Dom Paul Marie Joseph Benoit (1893-1979) was a monk and priest at theBenedictine Abbey of St.Maurice and St. Maur in Clervaux, Luxembourg.His organ music, largely based on Gregorian chant, has a serenity thatis evocative of a spiritual atmosphere.
